The challenge
Across several institutions, recruitment was happening, but not always rigorously. Interview panels lacked structured evaluation tools. Hiring decisions too often depended on instinct or familiarity rather than evidence. Managers under pressure to fill roles quickly were not consistently equipped to assess candidates with objectivity, and the documentation required for accountability and compliance was maintained with varying degrees of quality.
The deeper problem was not a lack of effort or goodwill. It was a gap in tools, training, and shared standards. Organizations were recruiting with confidence in their intentions, but without confidence in their methods.
Our Consultant designed and delivered targeted recruitment and interviewing training for HR professionals, managers, and evaluation panel members across institutions. Rather than off-the-shelf content, each program was adapted to the specific governance requirements, organizational culture, and operational realities of the participants. Sessions combined competency-based interviewing techniques, structured candidate evaluation tools, bias awareness exercises, and practical report-writing workshops with live simulations and role plays that participants could apply immediately.
Critically, the training created a safe space for honest reflection. Many participants acknowledged, often for the first time, that their hiring process had been more informal than rigorous. That acknowledgement was the beginning of real, lasting change.
